COD CONNECTION
floating sound-sculpture
in collaboration with John Andrew Wilhite-Hannisdal and Rebekah Oomen
This sound-sculpture floating installation investigates the relationship between codfish and humans, focusing on symbiosis and life-cycles. Wilhite-Hannisdal spent several years recording the mating calls of cod with Dr. Oomen in Arendal, Norway, and it is from these recordings that sound is made. These are the first close up “studio” recordings of cod mating. The sculpture is made from old fishing boats. Fishing activity artefacts, charged with energies of floating and drifting in the water, are intertwined with the image of a fish body. The sound source is placed inside the sculpture.
