G E O M E T R Y O F O R G A N I CA life is organic as body or tree, at the same time it has structure and logic as geometry or mathematics. Every known life form begins as a geometrical form, a sphere – the shape of the ovum. Then we become a 4-cell tetrahedron, then 8-cell cube. From two cubes we turn back into a sphere at 32 cells, then we become a 512-cell torus... Earth and its magnetic field is also a torus. There is geometry and structure in small entities such as molecules and in huge such as Universe. We don’t always see these structures, because they are smaller/bigger than eye/mind can comprehend.
Geometry is often serving profane functional purposes – in precise technical drawings, maps and schemes. On the other hand, geometry is also being thought of as something containing sacred knowledge, full of awe, mystery, and unknown. It speaks both to rational and sensual in us. In this project I explore connections of organic and structured, straight and soft, spontaneous and planned, earthly and magical. I'm looking into people’s relations with each other, home, nature, themselves: connections within the “inland empire”, with the other beings and the world. Simple happenings are seen as rituals, sacred acts. A handshake, a swim, a look at the sky, a walk in the forest, a memory from childhood, an embrace with beloved. How can a feeling be visualized, crystallized and brought into observable shape? How can one draw a deep breath or a mutual heartbeat? How do our experiences create crystals inside our chest and expand it into the open? |
